MEPhI Representatives Participated in the Discussion of the Obninsk Master Plan

During his address to the Federal Assembly, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to define a list of 200 Russian cities for which special master plans would be developed, including Kaluga and Obninsk.

On February 12, the Governor of Kaluga Region, Vladislav Shapsha, met with representatives of Rosatom, MEPhI, and Obninsk Administration and discussed the first results of the science city master plan preparation, as well as participation in the federal campus program. He emphasized that the main outlines of the master plan should be received in March to start a public discussion with the community.

Under the Obninsk Tech project, the city will become the International Youth Nuclear Capital.

Vladimir Putin noted that residents of cities and towns should become co-authors of the development plans, and that it is necessary to actively use mechanisms when citizens themselves determine what problems should be addressed in the first place. He proposed to increase co-financing of such popular projects and said that the contest for the best projects for creating a comfortable urban environment in small towns and historical settlements will be extended until 2030. It is planned to allocate 360 billion rubles for landscaping and major projects of such kind.
